About Me

五十嵐 丈

1993年生まれ。Photographer。山形県鶴岡市関川という人口97人のムラに住んでいる。キジが窓ガラスを割って入ってきたり、ハクビシンの鳴き声で目覚めるといった経験を持つ。

過疎化が進む過程に抗いながらも、おそらく無くなってしまうであろう【集落の遺影】を撮り続けている。また、写真そのモノの定義を拡張するような作品の製作をしている。

新潟大学工学部化学システム工学科を卒業後、地方銀行へ就職するも毎日の通勤の中で自分の行動こそが山間部がなくなってしまう行動だと気が付き、一年で退社。現在は、地域にもお金が循環してくる仕組みを作るために、Green Blue あつみで自然体験や文化体験 / 羽越のデザイン企業組合で伝統的工芸品羽越しな布の原料であるシナノキに咲く花でコスメの製造販売などを行っている。

Joe Igarashi

“Born in 1993. I live in a village called Sekikawa in Tsuruoka City, Yamagata Prefecture, with a population of 97 people. I have experienced things like pheasants breaking into my house through the window glass, and waking up to the cries of raccoon dogs. While exploring the countryside life, I work as a photographer, capturing the festivals and daily life that are passed down in the village. Additionally, I create works that expand the definition of photography itself.”
