上ル 下ル

上ル下ルは、鶴岡銀座商店街にあるエビスヤビルの階段を展示会場としました。写真という媒体に対する伝統的な概念に新たな視点を加える試みです。サイアノタイプ、感熱、トナー、チェキ、インクジェットという5つの異なる出力方法を用いて、同一の被写体が、異なるアウトプットでどのように見えるか、あるいは見えないかを実験しました。

階段を利用することで、自然と見る順番がコントロールされ、最上階に近づくにつれて、いわゆる”写真”の要素を徐々に減らしました。最上階にはイラストレーター上で作ったスピログラフをスマホのスクリーンショットで撮影したものを展示しました。

また、その反対側のスペースでは、それぞれのアウトプットがミクロで映し出したものを展示し、肉眼では捉えることの難しい媒体の違いを見てもらいました。

階段を上りながら作品について考え、カラダが温まる。一息ついてクールダウンした状態で同じ作品を下りながら見ると、また異なる見方ができるようになっています。

‘上ル下ル’ (Noboru Kudaru)was an exhibition held on the stairs of the Ebisuya Building in the Tsuruoka Ginza Shopping Street. It was an attempt to add a new perspective to the traditional concept of the medium of photography. Using five different printing methods – cyanotype, thermal, toner, instant film (Cheki), and inkjet – I experimented with how the same subject appears or disappears in different outputs.

By utilizing the staircase, the order of viewing the works was naturally controlled. As visitors ascended to the top floor, elements typical of a “photo” were gradually reduced. On the top floor, I displayed a spirograph created in Illustrator and captured as a screenshot on a smartphone.

On the opposite side of the space, I exhibited micro-level details of each output, showcasing the subtle differences in media that are difficult to capture with the naked eye.

As visitors ascended the stairs, they were encouraged to think about the artworks, warming up in the process. Then, as they descended the stairs in a cooled-down state, they could view the same works from a different perspective.
